Atlanta United FC finally broke Atlanta’s curse of 23 years by winning the first MLS Cup! Congrats to our hometown club for an extraordinary job well done. They scored a victory over the Portland Timbers 2-0 in front of 73,019 cheering fans.

Atlanta United FC MLS Cup Big Win
Atlanta United FC is also known as Atlanta United is Atlanta, Georgia’s first professional soccer club competing in Major League Soccer (MLS). The club is a member of the league’s Eastern Conference and competes at the highest level of American soccer.
The first MLS regular season game in Atlanta was actually played on March 5, 2017, in Bobby Dodd Stadium where 55,297 fans were in attendance.
Atlanta United FC gave the city of Atlanta a championship win, breaking the 23-year curse! On December 8th, 2018, Atlanta United FC won the first MLS Cup at home in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta United’s fanbase is one of the largest in the league based on attendance from 2018 regular season, the club set several Major League Soccer records for single-match and highest average attendances.
Atlanta United has four Supporter Groups identified as Terminus Legion, Resurgence, Footie Mob, and the Faction.
All Atlanta United home games are played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Atlanta United played in 2017, as the twenty-second overall expansion team of the league with their home games played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Game Day Expectation
The Atlanta United during their inaugural season introduced a ritual called the Golden Spike in a nod to the city of Atlanta’s railroad history. Prior to the game, players and supporters sign a large golden railroad spike, which is then marched into the stadium by supporters and hammered into a platform by a local VIP.
After each game, the player voted as the game’s Man of the Match hammers a spike.
Local celebrities that took part in the Golden Spike tradition during 2017 included hip-hop artists 2 Chainz, Yung Joc, and Waka Flocka, as well as country musician Zac Brown, retired Atlanta Braves star Andruw Jones, and Atlanta basketball players Tiffany Hayes and Dennis Schröder. Atlanta native rap artist Archie Eversole also participated in the Golden Spike tradition and would later compose a rap anthem for the club entitled “United We Conquer.”
In 2018, notable celebrity participants have included singer T-Pain, Dutch soccer legend Edgar Davids, Atlanta multi-sports star Brian Jordan, boxing legend Evander Holyfield, and rappers Jeezy and Killer Mike.
The club also owns Atlanta United 2, a reserve team that competes in the USL Championship (USLC). Atlanta United also operates a youth academy that competes in the United States Soccer Development Academy.
