Metro Atlanta’s Most Influential Citizens

Georgian Terrace will host an event to honor Atlantans who are currently spheres of influence in the metro area. Well-known Atlantans from business, government, arts, philanthropy, and media will be treated to a lavish black tie dinner as the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Dinner guests will be seated at a table as diverse in discipline as these regional leaders represent. The organizers of this event hope the experience for each honored guest will be a night to remember as well as an opportunity to build new relationships with leaders in the city who are not normally a direct part of their lives. Among the guests will be Mayor Kasim Reed, Congressman John Lewis, former Mayor Sam Massell, Herman and Sylvia Russell, cartoonist Mike Luckovich, television anchors Monica Pearson and Brenda Wood, the Beltline’s Brian Leary, business leader Charlie Loudermilk, The Home Depot’s CFO Carol Tome, music entrepreneur Dallas Austin, and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.

First opened to the public in October 1911, Midtown Atlanta’s Georgian Terrace at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue has been an integral part of many of the city’s most iconic milestones, including the publication and film debut of Gone with the Wind. At 7:00 p.m. on October 20, 2011, a new milestone will be set with this occasion.

From its inception, the Georgian Terrace helped make Atlanta a lure for travelers worldwide as well as a popular gathering spot for local residents. One hundred years later, the Georgian Terrace remains a destination of choice for visiting celebrities, business executives and travelers, having recently benefitted from an $11 million "facelift" to prepare it for a new century of luxury guest services. The Georgian Terrace has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986.

The black-tie evening will feature music from each decade of the hotel’s century and a gourmet menu from its respected culinary staff.

Maybe Not Bora Bora But Close Atlanta Luxury Romantic Experiences

Atlanta is one of the most dynamic cities in the country, steeped in history and home to several good universities and points of interest such as CNN Headquarters, the World of Coca-Cola and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum. There are a variety of romantic activities here, both for the visiting couple and those living in the area.

Dining

Gastronomy is such an important part of everyday life that we love to share it in romantic settings. Babette’s Café (babettescafe.com) features simple tapas-style dishes with a mix of Italian, French, Spanish and Mediterranean culinary flare. The restaurant is housed in a bungalow dating to 1916, featuring a cozy back-deck dining area, and staff treats customers like one of the family. Zagat rated the restaurant "very good to excellent." Gerry Kaskala of Aria (aria-atl.com) was one of only six chefs in the country to be awarded the Robert Mondavi Culinary Award of Excellence in 2001, and he brings his expertise to this restaurant, offering high-end American fare. The service of the staff matches the quality of the food and couples will feel taken care of. La Fourchette (lafourchetteatlanta.com) serves French-Mediterranean cuisine in a casual, intimate setting. Some items to share include black truffle French fries, Tunisian beignets and artichauts frits. The restaurant is open only for dinner and closed on Sunday. Au Pied de Cochon (aupieddecochonatlanta.com) is open 24 hours. The restaurant is dimly lit, with high ceilings, chandeliers and ornate wall designs, creating a very elegant atmosphere. Couples can sit in a private booth behind red velvet drapes.

Hotel Stays

Whether you are in town for a romantic getaway or simply a local looking for a romantic change of scenery, the Four Seasons Atlanta (fourseasons.com) will not fail in helping to set the right mood, as the city’s only five-star, five-diamond hotel. As you expect from the brand, the service is impeccable, and couples can enjoy a dual spa experience and later curl up together in plush terry bathrobes after a bath. A quaint bed and breakfast can be one of the most romantic of lodging options. The Sugar Magnolia Bed & Breakfast (sugarmagnoliabb.com) dates to 1892 and is an elegantly decorate Queen Ann Victorian structure. Couples will enjoy the double Jacuzzi tub and fireplace in their room, as well as taking tea on a private balcony or relaxing on the rooftop deck with a waterfall garden.

Outdoors

Getting out in the fresh air can be invigorating to any couple, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden (atlantabotanicalgarden.org) provides an excellent setting for romance. The garden covers 30 acres through which couples can stroll, admiring orchids, sculptures and more. Particularly interesting is the canopy walk, a 600-foot path about 40 feet off the ground, where visitors can see the forest from on high. Piedmont Park (piedmontpark.org) is about one mile north of downtown and is 190 acres of open and recreational space. Couples can enjoy walking or biking on the many miles of paths, or taking a picnic lunch to one of the picnic tables or expanses of green lawn. Those with binoculars can delight in looking for some of the 175 bird species here.

The Arts

Few things make couples feel more romantic than getting dressed up and going out for a night of culture. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (atlantasymphony.org) plays at the Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center and has been performing since 1946, picking up Grammys along the way. Concerts featuring a particularly romantic composer like Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov will put couples in a very amorous mood. The High Museum of Art (high.org) is one of the premier art museums in the Southeast and contains more than 11,000 pieces, including a Rodin sculpture donated by the Louvre in honor of Atlanta citizens killed in a plane crash on their way to the French museum. Couples going on the third Friday of the month will enjoy live jazz performances.
