Metro Atlanta’s Most Influential Citizens

Georgian Terrace will host an event to honor Atlantans who are currently spheres of influence in the metro area. Well-known Atlantans from business, government, arts, philanthropy, and media will be treated to a lavish black tie dinner as the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Dinner guests will be seated at a table as diverse in discipline as these regional leaders represent. The organizers of this event hope the experience for each honored guest will be a night to remember as well as an opportunity to build new relationships with leaders in the city who are not normally a direct part of their lives. Among the guests will be Mayor Kasim Reed, Congressman John Lewis, former Mayor Sam Massell, Herman and Sylvia Russell, cartoonist Mike Luckovich, television anchors Monica Pearson and Brenda Wood, the Beltline’s Brian Leary, business leader Charlie Loudermilk, The Home Depot’s CFO Carol Tome, music entrepreneur Dallas Austin, and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.

First opened to the public in October 1911, Midtown Atlanta’s Georgian Terrace at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue has been an integral part of many of the city’s most iconic milestones, including the publication and film debut of Gone with the Wind. At 7:00 p.m. on October 20, 2011, a new milestone will be set with this occasion.

From its inception, the Georgian Terrace helped make Atlanta a lure for travelers worldwide as well as a popular gathering spot for local residents. One hundred years later, the Georgian Terrace remains a destination of choice for visiting celebrities, business executives and travelers, having recently benefitted from an $11 million "facelift" to prepare it for a new century of luxury guest services. The Georgian Terrace has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986.

The black-tie evening will feature music from each decade of the hotel’s century and a gourmet menu from its respected culinary staff.

This Atlanta Luxury Mansion Is $19.9 Million With Celebrity Status

The most expensive home currently on the market in Metro Atlanta is turning into quite the movie star.

The once-$25 million home at 490 West Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta was the site of “The Three Stooges” filming last week and is already known for its role in the 2009 film “Zombieland,” which filmed extensively in the Atlanta area. The mansion’s crazy-cool pool was featured in January on HGTV’s “Million Dollar Rooms.”

The asking price for the mansion has dropped to $19.9 million, which is still the most expensive home for sale within 50 miles of Atlanta. The home has nine bedrooms and 11 bathrooms with a lot size of 2 to 3 acres. It was built in 2008.

From the website at Sotheby’s Atlanta Fine Homes: “Ideal for lavish entertaining, this private resort features seven full kitchens, two gyms, a ballroom, recording studio, hair salon, nail salon, wellness center, cigar room and a theater.” It also mentions the enormous “breath-taking courtyard pool” that caught the fancy of HGTV.

The home is considered a single-family home built for entertainment, said listing agent Mark Bhaggan with Sotheby’s Atlanta Fine Homes.

Atlanta photographer Andrew Snook said “Stooges” has been filming at the mansion for at least a week. The movie started filming in Cartersvillle during the second week of May. Snook took exclusive early photos of the actors in their “Stooges” get-up. “Three Stooges” is an anticipated remake by the Farrelly Brothers.

In the cult comedy classic “Zombieland,” the mansion is the Hollywood home of Bill Murray, who had a surprise cameo in the film. Hookedonhouses.net has some cool movie shots of the mansion juxtaposed against the listings.
