Atlanta Events June 24-26 Take To The Stage And Music
FRIDAY
Music: Get a head start on the July 4th festivities with the 30th annual Roswell Patriotic Celebration Concerts. They’ll happen at 7:30 p.m. June 24 and 3 and 5:30 p.m. June 26 at the Roswell United Methodist Church.
Stage: “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” is an irreverent high-speed romp through all 37 of the Bard’s plays (and 154 sonnets) in two hours. It’s being presented by the Atlanta Shakespeare Company through July 31 at the New American Shakespeare Tavern.
Stage: The Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” returns to the Fox Theatre with former “American Idol” finalist Anthony Federov in the title role. It runs through June 26.
Stage: The Henry Players present C.S. Lewis’ beloved tale “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” through June 26 at the Henry County Performing Arts Center in McDonough.
Stage: The Atlanta Lyric Theatre presents the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Rent” through June 26 at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre in Marietta.
Stage: “Red, White and Tuna” is the third installment in the Tuna trilogy and it’s being staged at Theatre in the Square through June 26.

Stage: “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” opens June 17 at Onstage Atlanta in Decatur and continues through July 16.
Stage: Serenbe Playhouse presents “Ordinary Days,” the Southeastern premiere of new musical that tells the story of four young New Yorkers. It continues through June 25 in the Serenbe community. Check out our review of the show.
Stage: The neighbors are nice on “Avenue Q,” the only address you can afford when you’re fresh out of college, out of a job, or just trying to find your way in life. Horizon Theatre Company presents this upbeat, puppet-filled musical for grown-ups. It continues through July 3 at the company’s facility between Little Five Points and Inman Park. SATURDAY
Music: Atlanta’s own Parker Smith and the Bandwith will celebrate the release of debut album, “Garden Hills.” Check the band’s website for a taste of the music you’ll hear at the show, which starts at 8 p.m. June 25 at Smith’s Olde Bar.
Kids, family: Wizards and Wands Weekend brings two days of hands-on activities, a walk-around dragon mascot, performances and more. Costumes are encouraged. The fun happens 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 25 and noon-4 p.m. June 26 at Fernbank Museum of Natural History.
Music: Join Georgia Tech’s Sonic Generator and friends for Sonicpalooza, a free festival of contemporary music, local art and innovative cuisine, with a program of works by composers such as Steve Reich, David Lang and George Crumb. It’s a marathon event, taking place from 2 p.m. June 25 until midnight at the Woodruff Arts Center
Music, festival, recreation: The 2001 Rock-N-Ride event begins with a ride from Killer Creek Harley-Davidson in Roswell to downtown Atlanta, where there will be two stages of music (on Peachtree Street between Andrew Young International Boulevard and Ellis Street and at the Hard Rock Cafe’s Velvet Underground). Among the performers are Mother’s Finest, Six Shot Revival and Yacht Rock. Benefiting Grady Health Foundation and Gold Shield Foundation. The ride starts at 11 a.m. June 25.
Festival: Atlanta Summer Beer Festival boasts music with Yacht Rock Schooner and the sampling of more than 100 beers. 5-10 p.m. June 25 at Masquerade Music Park.
Festival, family: Mississippi Society of Georgia’s third annual Mississippi in the Park takes place 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 25 in Atlanta’s Chastain Park.
Pets, festival: PAWS Atlanta Festival has vendors showcasing products and services, dog training workshops, food, fun, music and, of course, animals available for adoption. It’s happening noon-4 p.m. June 25 at PAWS Atlanta’s home in Decatur.
SUNDAY
Music: Dinosaur Jr. was one of the most critically adored bands of the late ’80s and very early ’90s. The roaring wall of sound, particularly J Mascis’ guitar overdrive, was an obvious influence on Nirvana. This tour recreates the band’s classic album, “Bug,” and you’ll also get a chance to hear about what went on behind-the-scenes, since Henry Rollins will be interviewing the band live at the show. At 8 p.m. June 26 at Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points.
